79 Series Door Seals Guide
The 79 Series door seals are one of the most-replaced cabin items on the platform. Knowing what is wrong with the factory design and what the aftermarket fix delivers is essential for any owner doing serious highway distance.

1. Factory Pinch-Weld Design
The factory door seal is a flat-section rubber clipped onto the pinch-weld at the door opening. It contacts the door panel on closure but does not compress into a fully airtight seal - small gaps exist at the top of the door and at the door-frame corners. New from factory the gaps are small enough that noise is tolerable; as the rubber ages they grow.
2. Symptoms of Tired Seals
Wind noise above 90 km/h. Dust on the dash and interior surfaces after gravel driving. Diesel fume smell in the cabin when stopped at lights or service stations. Water ingress in heavy rain (in extreme cases). Whistling noise at specific highway speeds.
3. The Soundproofing Door Seal Kit
70 Series Store's Soundproofing Door Seal Kit replaces the factory pinch-weld rubber with a bulb-style closed-cell rubber seal. The bulb shape allows full compression on door closure, creating a sealed barrier between door and body. Independent testing has measured up to 3.5 dB reduction at 110 km/h and dramatic dust ingress improvement.
4. Installation
Strip the factory seal from the pinch-weld (pulls off in one piece). Clean the pinch-weld with isopropyl alcohol. Press the new bulb-style seal onto the pinch-weld, working around the door opening with consistent pressure. Trim length at the join. Total install time approximately 30 to 45 minutes per door. No special tools required.
5. Fitment by Variant
2-Door Single Cab kit covers both driver and passenger doors (6 m of seal). 4-Door kit covers Dual Cab, 76 Wagon and 78 Troopy (12 m of seal, including the rear doors and Troopy barn doors). Fits all 70 Series production from 1985 to current including the 2024 facelift.
