AIR CON COMPRESSORS FOR THE 70 SERIES
WHEN THE FACTORY COMPRESSOR FINALLY GIVES UP
The factory air conditioning compressor on a 70 Series eventually fails. The internal clutch bearing seizes, the front seal lets refrigerant out, or the compressor itself develops an internal mechanical fault that stops it pumping. When that happens, the cabin gets uncomfortably hot in summer and the windscreen fogs up in wet weather because the demister cycle uses the AC system. Replacement compressors restore proper air conditioning function immediately. On a vehicle that spends real time in 35 degree heat with the AC on continuously, a working compressor is not optional.
OEM-SPEC REPLACEMENTS WITH FRESH SEALS
Each compressor in this collection is supplied as a new or remanufactured assembly with fresh shaft seals, new internal vanes or pistons depending on the design, and a tested clutch assembly. Pulley alignment matches the factory drive belt arrangement so no belt routing issues arise. Refrigerant line connections are standard fittings rated for the R134a or R1234yf system fitted to the vehicle. Each compressor ships with installation hardware and an O-ring kit. The system needs to be evacuated and recharged after fitment, which is a workshop job rather than a DIY install.
ENGINE AND YEAR SPECIFIC FITMENT
Air con compressors are matched to the specific engine and refrigerant type because the mounting bracket, drive belt arrangement, and refrigerant pressure ratings all vary. The 1HZ in the HZJ70 to HZJ79 era uses one compressor specification. The 1VD-FTV V8 uses another. The 1GD-FTV 2.8L facelift uses a third. Older R12 systems retrofitted to R134a may need additional adapter fittings. Each listing confirms exact engine code, refrigerant type, and year range before you order. Pair with new compressor mount bolts and refrigerant during installation.
