Absolutely. One customer measured a 15dB reduction on average, while others describe being able to use hands-free calls at highway speed without shouting. The difference is most apparent at higher speeds where wind noise from the factory seals is worst.
It suits the 70 Series range, including the 73/74, 75 Troopy and ute, 76/77, 78 Troopy and 79 Dual Cab, plus 79 Single Cabs built before 2016. It is not suitable for 79 Series Single Cabs from 2016 onwards, and we don't recommend it for 2024 on facelift models because Toyota reduced the door gap, which can make the doors hard to close.
Yes, completely normal and actually a sign the seals are working. The improved seal creates a tighter fit when the door closes, which is exactly what reduces the noise. It gives the doors a more solid, premium feel.
Choose the 4 Door kit for the 76, 79 Dual Cab, 78 Troopy and 70 Series Prado (such as the KZJ78). It covers every door on those vehicles, including the rear barn doors.
Where the trim pinches the seal, carefully notch just the soft bulb section of the seal so the trim can sit back in place.
The seal is black only, and it's sold as a complete kit rather than single-door seals.
It's a quick DIY job. Remove the old seal, press the new seal onto the body around the door opening (not onto the door itself) and cut it to length, with no pins, adhesive or extra hardware needed. Most owners take 15 to 30 minutes for all doors, and sitting the seals in the sun for a few minutes first softens the rubber and makes them easier to fit.
This is one of the simplest mods you can do. There's no wiring and no drilling. You remove the old seal, press the new rubber seal onto the body around each door opening and trim it to length.
The seal comes on rolls that you cut to length, not one seal per door. The 2 Door kit is one 6m roll for a single cab, and the 4 Door kit is two 6m rolls (12m).
The 6m kit is sized for a single cab's two doors. The 12m kit is two 6m rolls that you cut to length, and it covers every door on a 76, dual cab, Troopy or 70 Series Prado, including the rear barn doors, and most owners have some seal left over.
It's designed to reduce road and wind noise rather than fine bulldust. For dust, run the air con on fresh air with the fan on medium to high so the cabin stays pressurised.
