BONNET HARDWARE FOR THE 70 SERIES
GAS STRUTS THAT REPLACE THE FACTORY PROP ROD
The factory bonnet on a 70 Series uses a prop rod that hooks into a hole under the bonnet to hold it open. It works, but barely. The rod slips out of its mount on uneven ground, you have to hold the bonnet up with one hand while you fish the rod into position, and the whole routine gets old after the first few oil checks. Bonnet hardware in this collection replaces the prop rod with gas struts that hold the bonnet open automatically, leaving both hands free to actually work on the engine. It is one of the cheapest and most worthwhile cabin convenience upgrades on the 70 Series.
RATED GAS STRUTS WITH FACTORY MOUNTING
Each gas strut set in this collection is rated to hold the full weight of the 70 Series bonnet in any open position, including the heavier facelift bonnet on the GDJ. The struts mount to existing factory points on the bonnet and inner guard using supplied brackets, so no drilling, welding, or panel modification is required. Construction is sealed gas-charged cylinders with stainless steel rod ends rated for years of temperature swings and vibration. Installation typically takes around fifteen minutes per side with basic hand tools.
SEPARATE KITS FOR VDJ AND GDJ BONNETS
Bonnet strut kits are platform-specific because the bonnet shape and mounting positions changed at the 2024 GDJ facelift. The 2007 to 2022 VDJ kits use one strut length and mounting bracket geometry. The 2023 onwards GDJ kits use a different specification. Each listing confirms exact year range and body style before you order. The same kits also suit the 76 Wagon and 78 Troopy of the corresponding era because the bonnet design is shared across the modern 70 Series body styles within each generation.
